Sony dominates the Aussie Airplay Chart, but UMA rules the Hot 100
Tones And I & Guy Sebastian keep delivering for SME

In a week with few changes at the top of local airplay charts, the battle between Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Australia – for both chart market share – has thrown up some interesting results.

On the TMN Australian Airplay Chart powered by Radio Monitor, Sony Music keeps a dominant hold over the market share with over 50% of the chart.

The chart measures the impacts of Australian songs at radio, and with five of the top six spots held by Sony artists, it’s no surprise to see the label with a 51.58% share.

Tones And I’s latest single ‘Never Seen The Rain’ is proving a worthy follow-up to ‘Dance Monkey’, with the two tracks holding spots #1 and #2 on the chart.

The former also hit a new peak of #2 on the TMN Hot 100 this week, behind only Lizzo’s ‘Good As Hell’ which reclaims top spot off the back of her Aussie tour.

Meanwhile, Guy Sebastian keeps delivering for Sony, with ‘Let Me Drink’ (#3) and ‘Choir’ (#5) performing well on the local chart.

Universal could be starting to turn the tide, however, with Kwame’s ‘Nobody’ (#27) and Tame Impala’s ‘Lost In Yesterday’ (#15) among the chart’s highest debuts.

It’s a different story on the Hot 100, where UMA has a market share of 38.06% this week, as well as holding the highest share of the Hot 40 (36.23%).

That’s despite the label’s highest performing track, ‘Memories’ by Maroon 5, slipping three frames to #4.

Meduza’s ‘Lose Control’ remains at a high peak of #7 this week, as does The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ (#8). Meanwhile, ‘Castle’s by Kiwi Freya Ridings and Justin Beiber’s country track ‘10,000 Hours’ both return to the Top 10.

There are also plenty of long-serving tracks are helping to cement Universal’s dominance on the chart.

Post Malone’s ‘Circles’ clocks a 20th charing week at #11, ‘Only Human’ by Jonas Brothers has spent 31 weeks and sits at #13, while Meduza’s ‘Piece Of Your Heart’ and Bieber’s Ed Sheeran team-up ‘I Don’t Care’ are both in the top 25 and close to breaking the 40-week mark.

UMA also boast the highest debut on the chart with the title track of Selena Gomez’ new album ‘Rare’ bowing at #29.

On the TMN Country Hot 50, Melanie Dyer extends her stay at the summit to five non-consecutive weeks with her single ‘Memphis T-Shirt’.

The Top 5 remain all-Aussie, with Morgan Evans, Brad Cox and Lee Kernaghan remaining in the bracket.

The latest release from The Buckleys gets a new peak this week, rising seven frames to #4. Their previous single ‘Daydream’ topped the old TMN Country Airplay Chart in 2018.
