We’ve been able to track the development of Perth MC Coin Banks across years of uploads to triplejunearthed.com in various guises. Firstly he was a part of The Stoops crew who had a modest hit with their tune Free, then he moved on to a fantastic album with production buddy Ta-ku, followed by another team up with Tassie’s Akouo as Letters To The Sun and then another stab at a group with the eight piece soul collective UPNUP.

Coin’s been a busy dude and with each release it’s felt like he’s been within reach of the wider acclaim that his prolific output has proved he deserves.

Released as the second single of his first solo EP, Heads, Coin’s latest jam Think Of You is a straight up gem. Seemingly always in good company Coin’s surrounded himself with a dream lineup of guests for Think Of You including Kiwi rapper Tom Scott, Homeboy Sandman from US label Stones Throw and one of his UPNUP collaborators Anders adding some additional croons.

Despite the shared spotlight Coin’s verse in the middle shines the brightest with an effortless cool rolling out with each new line like it’s his trademark.

There’s also an emotional centre to the tune that really comes through here as the Perth MC gets reflective without it being overwhelming. It feels pretty great to say that Coin Banks’ moment has well and truly arrived.
