PPCA and Australia Council have announced the recipients of their 2019 sound recording grants.

The five artists to receive $15,000 for their music projects were Ecca Vandal, Little Quirks, Tia Gostelow, Rafael Karlen and Philip Samartzis.

Speaking with TMN, singer-songwriter Ecca Vandal revealed she’ll use the money to write and co-produce her second album.

“I am extremely grateful for this grant as it allows me to make my second album, as an independent artist,” she said.

“I appreciate the support from PPCA and the Australia Council for the Arts, and am beyond excited to dive into the making of my next album. Looking forward to sharing new music with the world.”

For their part, folk duo Little Quirks posted; “We are so stoked and humbled to announce we are a recipient of a $15000 music grant from the Australian Council of the Arts to go towards recording!

“As you no doubt know this industry can be very hard and these sort of grants are just the best and help so much! So a huuuuuge thankyou to the Australian Council of the Arts and congrats to the other recipients!”

The partnership between PPCA and Australia Council has now supported 30 releases by Aussie acts.

“I am pleased to see emerging Australian artists supported to take their careers to the next level,” said Minister for the Arts the Hon Paul Fletcher MP.

“This is a great example of how the Australian Government partnering with the private sector helps to strengthen our vibrant music industry. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients and I look forward to hearing more of your work in the future.”

PPCA chief executive Dan Rosen added; “Congratulations from the PPCA to all of the artists who were successful this year. We are proud of the fact that through this initiative we can contribute to the range and diversity of Australian music being recorded and released.

“We are also really happy to continue our partnership with the Australia Council, drawing on the Council’s extensive expertise managing peer-assessed grant programs for the arts sector.

“We look forward to hearing the recordings that emerge as a result of this funding and wish all of the recipients the very best over the course of their recording careers. I would like to thank the Australia Council for their ongoing assistance and look forward to our continuing partnership.”
