The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha team up for a song of hope [listen]
There has been a lot of hype surrounding the possibility of The Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha working together. Six years after their first meeting, they’ve finally joined forces for the EDM-meets-pop track ‘Call You Mine’.
The Smokers are no strangers to Australian listeners with a string of Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum singles including their 2016 15x Platinum single ‘Closer’ ft. Halsey (#1 TMN Hot 100) which was also the longest running #1 ARIA single of that year.
Rexha is another name that Australian listeners have embraced over the last couple of years. Her single ‘Meant To Be’ ft. Florida Georgia Line was certified 5x Platinum while collaborative tracks ‘Hey Mama’, ‘In The Name Of Love’ and ‘Me, Myself & I’ also gained multi-Platinum plaques.
The harmonies are smooth and have this slick contrast to the electronic production.
The structure and melody are comparatively similar to The Chainsmokers collaboration with Coldplay ‘Something Just Like This’, also a #1 airplay hit in Australia. It’s the way Rexha begins to sing the start of the chorus which holds the same essence.
It’s not a ground-breaking pop song showcasing any experimental traits. Instead, they just stick to what they’re good at. This means some people will love it because it follows trends and others will be left wanting more.
But this is another strong radio track for both The Chainsmokers and Rexha and looks set to follow their past commercial success.
