The Gold Coast Music Awards have ushered in national focus on emerging acts as Amy Shark, Hollow Coves, Electrik Lemonade, PACES and IVEY who’ve all gone on to bigger and better things.
Supported by City of Gold Coast and with presenting partner Surfers Paradise Alliance, which runs events to draw tourists to the region, the awards shared $1.8 million in funding with eight other arts organisations to strengthen its business model and expand its impact into sector professional development initiatives.
The City last November endorsed the Gold Coast Music Action Plan, which includes various areas.
Special Entertainment Precincts (SEPs) to protect music venues and encourage local acts, the establishment of a Music Advisory Group made up of promoters, educators, artists and venues, new grants, industrial spaces turned into creative ones, and a strategy to draw established music companies to the Gold Coast.
Cr Herman Vorster said of the 2019 return of the awards, “This is a fantastic event that captures the energy, enthusiasm and optimism we have for musical expression here and across the region.
“I encourage the community to get right behind this year’s awards.”
