Live bands added to Perth film festival

As part of its 21st birthday celebrations, Revelation Perth International Film Festival founder and director Richard Sowada has added live music and talks in addition to the 180 films being screened.

15 acts from abroad, across the Nullabor and the WA gig circuit, will play July 6-15 at Mt Lawley’s Rosemount Hotel, Fremantle’s Mojo’s and Perth Backlot.

“Rev’s always had a solid live music with film component with local and visiting international artists the calibre of Siouxsie & The Banshees Steve Severin, Goblin and their live score to Suspiria, Sonic Youth’s Lee Renaldo and tonnes more.”

So says Sowada who, in the 1980s, played in Perth bands The Tarantulas and Kansas City Killers.

Many of the acts playing are fronted by women, so part of the program is a Women in Rock workshop with Amy Taylor of Melbourne band Amyl & The Sniffers and members from Sydney band Rackett.
