Musica Copa announces date & teams for 2016 event

The music industry’s beloved charity 5-a-side football tournament, Musica Copa returns to its regular annual December fixture with Friday 2 December in partnership with the Electronic Music Conference (EMC).

With all proceeds going to charity, the event will be held at the KIKOFF soccer centre, Marrickville, from 2-9pm, with entry via a $10 door donation.Already confirmed on the team sheet are a festival sized line-up of artists including What So Not,Nina Las Vegas, Paces, Swick, Montaigne, Dena Amy, Motorik Vibe Council, Third Floor, Klue, Winston Surfshirt and members of Set Mo, I Know Leopard and The Delta Riggs, plus more to be announced.

Reading like a who’s-who of the Australian music industry, Musica Copa represents market leaders in their respective fields, each turning on their out of offices for a day of football and fundraising. This year we welcome four new fantastic teams/businesses this season – BMG, I OH YOU, Pandora and Select Music.

To cope with demand, the ever-expanding social enterprise has increased to 21 teams, almost double that from their inaugural event four years ago, with a new look format featuring 7 teams competing across 3 group stages. The top 8 teams will qualify for the knock out phase and the resulting quarterfinals, semis and grand final. Teams are mixed with each squad of 8 players featuring a minimum of 2 female players.

The Loop’s charming Channel 11 presenter Scott Tweedie returns as Musica Copa’s exclusive MC and he’ll be keeping the star players and VIP guests on their toes with all the latest news throughout the day. Previous A-list artists to have played Musica Copa includeCarmada, DMA’s, Flight Facilities,LDRU, Montaigne, Motez, The Meeting Tree, The Rubens, Touch Sensitive, Yolanda Be Cool and many more!

New for 2016 is their partnership with i-manifest; a charity that provides pathways for young people to pursue a real, sustainable career in the creative industries. More info: www.i-manifest.org.

Each team is playing to win money for their nominated charity with Musica Copa having have raised over $30,000 for charity since the event was established in 2013.
