Goal! Tones And I Sets-up FIFA Women’s World Cup
The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is about to kick off, though Tones And I has already kicked a goal.
The “Dance Monkey” hitmaker will drop “The Greatest” on Aug. 4, a tie-in to the all-world football tournament, the first to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Tones (real name: Toni Watson) will play a big part as the Matildas and Football Ferns – hopefully – march deep into the knockout rounds.
The one-time busker will have huge visibility in stadiums and national TV, The Music Network has learned.
Snippets of “The Greatest” will be synced to Channel 10 during the competition, and Tones teams up with American rapper BIA and French-Senegalese singer-songwriter Diarra Sylla for “Bring It On,” which features as the official walk out track to all 64 World Cup games.

Produced and co-written by multi-Grammy Award winning producer RedOne, “Bring It On” will live-on at future FIFA tournaments and will get its premiere at the opening match between NZ and 1995 winners Norway at Eden Park, Auckland, tonight, July 20.
“By bringing together voices from Africa, Australia, Europe and North America, this song symbolises how music – and football – can unite the world,” comments FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura.
The track is released in full on Friday, July 21.
Tones is no rookie when it comes to the bright lights and the big stage.
Her catalogue recently charged past 10 billion streams combined, including that monster hit “Dance Monkey,” which topped the charts in 30 markets, including a record 24 weeks in Australia, and 11 weeks in the U.K. – a record for a solo female artist.
Meanwhile, she’s currently “locked away recording her album,” due out in 2024, explains Regan Lethbridge, co-director and founder of Lemon Tree Music, the artist management company that guides Tones’ career.
As the soccer action gets underway, Kiwi viral star BENEE and Australian singer and songwriter Mallrat will grace the stage at the opening ceremony for a live performance of “Do It Again,” the collaborative “official song” of the World Cup.
