SXSW Sydney: First Look at Music and Events Program

SXSW Sydney is gearing up to take place in Sydney, with festival organisers unveiling the first tranche of speakers, performers and events.

The multi-day festival aims to bring together the world’s creative industries across music, tech and innovation, gaming, screen and culture with a focus on the future.

Sydney is the first city outside of the event’s original home, Austin in Texas, to play host to the event. It will take place from Oct. 15 to 22.

The SXSW Sydney 2023 Music Festival, which forms part of the wider program, will take place across multiple live music venues in central Sydney. Musicians can now apply to participate in the festival, which would see them perform in front of industry reps, media, fellow artists and fans.

Festival organisers also revealed the first international music acts on its program and flagged that many more will be announced throughout the year in the lead up to the event.

Nigerian-British indie-pop songwriter Connie Constance is among them, as is Canadian new-wave breakthrough solo artist Ekkstacy, London-based quartet Los Bitchos, Japanese punk four-piece Otoboke Beaver and American rapper-producer Redveil.

Among the first round of speakers is Per Sundin, Swedish CEO of Pophouse Entertainment. Sundin has worked with some of the highest-selling Nordic artists, including Avicci, ABBA, Tove Lo and Swedish House Mafia, and played a pivotal role in the rise of Spotify.

Colin Daniels, managing director of SXSW Sydney, said: “Today’s announcement is simply the first port in a voyage of discovery. Over the next eight months we will reveal more speakers, more music, more screen and more gaming content from Australia, the Asia Pacific and from around the world. I’m excited to partner with some of the leading innovators in the creative, business and technology communities to enable people to see their world, their work and their ingenuity from a series of new and inspiring angles.”
