Three Aussies up for MTV Video Music Awards

Sia, Troye Sivan and Tame Impala are all up for the2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

Perth Grammy Award nominees Tame Impala have been nominated alongside international heavyweights Beyoncé, Adele, Coldplay and the late David Bowie for Best Direction. The band’s clip is for The Less I Know The Better, lifted from last year’s ARIA #1 LP Currents.

Fellow Perth artist Troye Sivan is up against Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Florence + The Machine in the Breakthrough Long Form Video category. Nominated for his Blue Neighbourhoodtrilogy, the nod is the latest in a string of international recognition for the 21-year-old.

This year alone Sivan has performed on US TV shows The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He’s also clocked up over 100 million streams worldwide for his debut LP Blue Neighbourhood, which is certified Platinum in Australia and approaching Gold in the US.

Adelaide native Sia scored a nomination in the Best Female Video category for her Billboard #1 single Cheap Thrills.She’s up against Rihanna, Ariana Grande andBeyoncé. Cheap Thrills, which features Sean Paul, topped the Billboard Hot 100 yesterday, dethroning Drake’s One Dance. It’s her highest position since May 2012 whenWild OneswithFlo Ridapeaked at #5. However as a writer, she spent three weeks atop the Billboard chart with her track for Rihanna,Diamonds, in December 2012.
