EMC adds awards component to conference

PRESS RELEASE:

Electronic Music Conference (EMC), announced today that it will take place from Monday November 28 to Friday December 2, 2016. The organisers anticipate over 2,000 Australian and international visitors will converge at the ivy complex in Sydney for the 5th edition of EMC.
In 2016, EMC hasannounced the addition of the annual inthemix Awards to the jam-packed week of EMC activities, and the music industry’s annual charity 5-a-side football tournament, Musica Copa, cementing this as a not-to-be-missed time for the local and international industry to be in Sydney.
Founded by Junkee Media in 2012, EMC is Asia Pacific’s largest industry event for electronic music. As a two-day conference teamed with a club-based festival across Sydney, EMC continues to grow each year. The 2015 edition was the biggest yet, and featured over 180 speakers across over 40 keynotes, panels and masterclasses; and over 25 performances from Australia’s leading emerging artists in electronic music.
Moving from its traditional mid-year timeslot, the inthemix Awards were formed in 2003 celebrate the very best in Australian electronic music. Previous winners include Flume, Peking Duk, Flight Facilities, The Presets, Golden Features + more. Each year over 120,000 votes are cast by the public for favourite DJ, event and club night, and a further 750 votes are cast in specialised industry-voted categories. The industry’s most prominent identities will gather for the 2016 awards night in Sydney on December 1st at ivy Ballroom.
In addition to the new events on the EMC 2016 program, the organisers are also committed to growing the daytime and night-time activities in 2016, with further new sessions, initiatives, extended events and programs to be announced which highlight, discuss and celebrate the innovations and successes of electronic music in 2016 and beyond. EMC 2016 will also see an increased number of special networking events including specific events held in the EMC Networking Hub, a number of sunset networking events at ivy’s poolside across both days and special networking events presented in conjunction with EMC partners in ivy’s Penthouse.
“With Australian electronic music consistently receiving the respect it deserves globally, and the Asia Pacific now the fastest growing market in this sector, we are excited to be taking EMC to the next level in 2016. By bringing the inthemix Awards and EMC together we are cementing Sydney as a pivotal annual destination on the calendar for creative people working in the electronic music business locally and globally to converge, network and discover new Australian music,”said EMC Founder and Junkee Media CEO Neil Ackland.
EMC and inthemix Awards will take place at ivy; EMCPlay showcasing parties will take over various venues in Sydney inner city, and Musica Copa will take place at the KIKOFF Soccer Centre in Marrickville.
The event is supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
