PANEL: EPIC FAILS
Hosted by Jake Stone (BlueJuice) – ’EPIC FAILS’ is a panel set out to discuss times where thingswent pear shaped, things did not go to plan and things learnt looking back. Ever wanted to get advice fromMusicians& Industry about what they wish they had known in the early years of their careers? This panel features Annie Hamilton (Little May), Andy Bull, Neal Hunt (Sureshaker) & Sweetie Zamora (FBi Radio).
Jake Stone is best known as the extroverted frontman for beloved Australian band bluejuice, but he also works as a writer and presenter for television, radio and print media.
Jake has written for The Sydney Morning Herald’s News Review, Rolling Stone, and has contributed lead features for the Guardian’s arts section. He has also contributed to Junkee.com andHhhhappy.com, and in the past has been the staff writer for Sydney street press like The Brag.
He works as a freelance host for speaking engagements, and for television, was a script writer and cast member for Channel 7’s sketch show The Big Bite, and worked throughout 2015 as a host for late night radio on Triple J.
A dark tangle of raw lyrics, honest and haunting melodies and voices upon voices upon voices; Little May represent a new generation of songwriters. Undefinable and expansive, Little May’s sound is created by age-old friends Annie Hamilton, Liz Drummond and Hannah Field, who in the last couple of years have acquired over 25 million Spotify streams and whose records have made their way into the ears of fans and tastemakers far beyond their Sydney home.
Bull began playing music in the mid-2000s in Sydney’s live club scene, initially coming to wider attention in 2010 with the Phantom Pains EP; a lively, piano-driven outing lead to the listening public by thesong “Dog” (featuring Lisa Mitchell). After extensive national touring, Andy constructed a home studio in 2013, where he began writing and producing a new body of work. Lead by the singles ’Keep On Running’, ’Baby, I’m Nobody Now’, and ’Talk Too Much’, the album Sea Of Approval was released in 2014. An adventurous, richly detailed body of work, Sea Of Approval animates Bull’s contemplative and oftentimes self- effacing lyrical concerns with a striking melodic instinct and highly unique sonic palette.
Critically and popularly received, the Album was nominated for three ARIA Awards and polled three times in the Triple J Hottest 100; and Bull’s powerful live show had him acclaimed as one of the surprise hits of the 2015 Laneway Festival. With his bold, singular artistic perspective, incomparable singing voice and live performances, Bull is one of Australia’s most gifted and inspiring performers.
