Legion Fest fully funded, but not from Pozible pledges

Founders of the fan-funded Legion Fest, including Devil You Know drummer John Sankey, have announced the event has been fully funded.
Legion has reached its $3.27 million goal but it wasn’t through fan pledges on the event’s Pozible campaign page. Legion told TMN thefunding came as a result of Legion founders (John Sankey, Mark Spillane and Kristie Lawrence) raising private funding themselves.
“As a result of all of the support that was born out of the Pozible campaign, we felt confident to move forward and invest in the future of the heavy music festival scene,” Lawrence told TMN.
Born in response to the cancellation of the now defunct Soundwave Festival in December, Legion raised hundreds of thousands via Pozible fan pledges and pre-sales. TMNunderstands two donations of $30,000 were made from audio and production services company JPJ Audio, and merchandise, design and touring company Love Police.
However in January organisers were forced to reschedule the festival from March 2016 to January 2017 and extend the Pozible campaign deadline to March 18 this year. Organisers cited timing, council issues, venue issues and securing headliners as reasonsfor the reschedule on January 19. Additonally, at the time of rescheduling, Legion had only achieved$327,000 of its $3.27 million target.
Legion Festival will now kick off on January 21 next year, taking in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Organisers will announce ticket prices, on sale dates, headline artists and lineup additions shortly. According to the press release, anyone that has pledged their support as a part of the Pozible campaign will be heavily rewarded.
John Sankey said: “As the founders of this festival, myself, Mark Spillane and Kristie Lawrence are committed to ensuring that we stick to our promise of creating something truly special and unique for the fans and we promise that we will continue to be completely honest and transparent throughout the planning process.”
