YouTube and Eventbrite are selling concert tickets through music videos

YouTube and Eventbrite are selling concert tickets through music videos

Check it out online, like what you see, so go to the show. It’s become the standard route to finding your favourite new band so, naturally, two major players have come together to make that path easier.

Eventbrite, the event management and ticketing platform, has formed an integration partnership with YouTube that places concert tickets just a click away from music videos.

RÜFÜS DU SOL, Stella Donnelly and Wafia are among the first Australian acts who will participate in this new integration, which will apply to thousands more owners of YouTube Official Artist Channels around the globe, with Eventbrite show listings.

It’s a cinch for YouTube users who, while watching music videos on its desktop version or within the app, will be now spot a “Tickets” buttons directly under the clip. And at a glance, it’s a no-brainer for artists, who can convert a casual online follower into an impulse purchase and, just maybe, a fan.

It’s another realisation of YouTube’s dreams to play in the real, live world. Late last year, the video streaming giant struck a partnership with Ticketmaster to enable music fans to purchase tickets and view tour information directly on artists’ YouTube pages.

Through the partnerships with Eventbrite and Ticketmaster, YouTube claims to cover more than 70% of the U.S. ticketing market and “we’ll continue to add new artists and venues of all sizes to our list in North America as well as expand globally,” according to a statement posted to the tech titan’s blog.

Initially, the Eventbrite option will focus on concerts, festivals and venues in the U.S. and there’s no timeline for a rollout in Australia and New Zealand.
