Need a leg-up? The QUBE Effect program returns for emerging acts
Brisbane-based artist development program The QUBE Effect may be one of the biggest quiet achievers in the music industry.
The Brisbane City Council initiative, which provides live, promotional and professional development opportunities for emerging Brisbane acts, has been the catalyst for some seriously impressive signpost moments.

From Pink Matter going on to headline a show at BIGSOUND last year, to Fight Ibis landing a national record deal with Universal Music, to Aerborn (pictured) supporting Sarah Blasko at Brisbane Festival, The QUBE Effect is undoubtedly a career-making program.
Now in its fifth year, Brisbane City Council is looking for the city’s best new music talent to share in mentoring and live opportunities, cash prizes, studio recording sessions and more for The QUBE Effect 2019.
How does it work?
Applications are open to musical groups, including soloists, duos and bands, from Brisbane. The terms and conditions state that at least one member of the musical act must reside in the Brisbane Local Government Area identified by postcode.
At least 50% of the musical act must be aged between 12 and 25. Applications are now open HERE and close 22 February 2019.
An expert panel made up of high profile artists, managers and producers will then shortlist 24 musical for the 2019 program.
The QUBE Effect program runs for six months, and features a live performance element, which will take place in April as part of Youth Week 2019.
The artists involved will then be given the chance to be mentored by some of Brisbane’s most influential artists, take part in workshops, film their own music video, win BIGSOUND passes and have the chance to perform at a number of Australia’s biggest music festivals.
The unique program not only shines a light on Brisbane’s best emerging talent, it also offers money-can’t-buy interactions from those who have made it to the top, as well as career-highlight moments through its industry partnerships.
