Melbourne’s Ben Abraham signs to Inertia

Melbourne-based cinematic-folk artist Ben Abraham has signed to Sydney-based music company Inertia Music.

Discovered at this year’s BigSound conference in Brisbane, Abraham’s champions also include Emmylou Harris, who he supported on her national tour, Gotye, who features on his forthcoming debut album, and Sara Bareilles, who labelled him one of her “favourite new singer-songwriters”.

His past collaborations also include works with Perth artist Ta-Ku and indie-pop artist WAFIA.

Justin Cosby, Head of A&R at Inertia, told TMN it was Abraham’s presence both live and on record that spurred the signing.

“The combined strength of Bens’ storytelling in his voice and prose is immediate to anyone in his stunning music. In both their recording and his stirring performances,” said Cosy. “Ben is and has something very special in his marrow: his songs and sentiment are testament to that. His music… His voice … Listen… Share… Enjoy.”

Inertia is set to release Abraham’s debut album Sirens on March 4 and is calling the opus a ‘musical documentary’. Sirens features collaborations with Melbourne singer-songwriter Gossling, Grammy winner Gotye, producer/engineer Jono Steer (Gypsy & The Cat, Ainslie Wills), percussionist Leigh Fisher and guitarist Lawrence Folvig.

Abraham said in a statement: “I am really stoked to be joining the Inertia family whose roster includes some of favourite Australian artists and who have proven to be some of the smartest and most thoughtful people working in Australian music.”

Abraham is signed to booking agency Billions is the US and Canadia (the agency also services Australia and New Zealand) and Coda Agency in Europe. He is managed by Nick Stern atVector Management.
