WAM welcomes Clive Hodson to board, promotes Livia Carré to general manager

Veteran music publisher Clive Hodson joins the new board of West Australian Music (WAM) while Livia Carré is promoted to general manager, a new position at the trade body.

Hodson, managing director of Perfect Pitch Publishing, which boasts over 25,000 copyrights under management, injects his “extensive knowledge of the music sector both nationally and internationally” into the role and will be an “incredible asset and addition to WAM’s board,” reads a statement from the organisation.

On Hodson’s appointment, WAM board president Al Taylor comments, “it is a real pleasure and privilege to have Clive at the table. Aside from his significant and highly relevant experience in the industry, he is a seasoned Board professional and a true gentleman.”

Separately, Hodson serves as deputy chairman and board director of publishers’ trade body AMPAL, as board director of mechanical rights society AMCOS, and as industry peer of the Australia Council for the Arts.

“It’s an absolute honour to be appointed to the WAM Board,” he notes in the statement. “Throughout my whole career, which started in Perth, I have been a massive supporter of WA music.

“The enormity of the talent in both the creative and management of music, in WA, is now recognised not only nationally but globally. I’m proud and excited to be a part of an organisation whose objectives are to support and develop WA Music at all levels”.

Meanwhile, Carré, who has served as business manager since joining WAM in January 2016, rises to GM, a newly-created role that will enable her to “provide greater impact across WAM’s activities,” the statement reads.

Over those three-years-and-change, Carre has won fans at the organisation with her finance know-how and “innate understanding” of the industry which has seen her step into “a natural leadership role” at WAM.

Carré, a member of Chartered Accountants Australia, brings more than 20 years’ experience in governance, corporate accounting and finance to her role, with stints across music, hospitality, mining and more.

“Livia has been an important part of the WAM team for the past three years, increasingly taking responsibility for WAM’s administration, beyond her role as business manager,” explains WAM CEO Mike Harris.

This appointment, he notes, gives the organisation “a mature and robust oversight across all its activities and allows me to focus on positioning WAM to best support WA artists and the local music sector.”

Established in 1987, WAM is the peak industry body responsible for supporting, nurturing and growing music across its many styles in the western state. Its range of programs and events include WAMfest, the WAMAwards (or WAMis) and the Hall of Fame.
