According to statistics posted in Rdio’s farewell post, the first listener signed up on August 3, 2010, the most played song was When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars, the most played album was Drake’s Nothing Was The Same, and the first song ever to be played on Rdio was California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) by Katy Perry.
Rdio’s Australian and New Zealand head Colin Blake stepped down from his post from in October, just under one month before the acquisition was announced. Speaking to TMN about the shuttering of Rdio last month, Blake said: “I am very proud of the marketing work that my team and I have done here in Australia and New Zealand over the past three years.
“We invested into the music industry when not many streaming services were and that yielded great initial results with the Rdio app at one point being the Number 1 music app and Number 1 grossing music app in the Australian iTunes Store, with almost 1 million downloads in the challenging AU/NZ market.
“I believe some poor decisions and issues in the US market led to this outcome,” Blake added.
Rdio is expected to announce more details of its wind-down in the coming weeks, with some of its staff expected to join the Pandora team.
