Aus connection helped Blackpink smash Guinness World Record
Australians love a success story. Yet somehow, the indomitable rise of Blackpink, has been ignored or overlooked by the mainstream media.
Last week, Blackpink smashed a bunch of world records, as the music video for their latest single ‘How You Like That’ (Interscope) blew up with 86.3 million views in the first day of release.
That’s impressive enough to earn plaudits from Guinness World Records, which entered ‘How You Like That’ into the books as the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours; most viewed music video on YouTube in 24 hours; and most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.
YouTube also announced that its live premiere of ‘How You Like That’ reached 1.66 million peak concurrent viewers, good enough to bag titles for most viewers for the premiere of a video on YouTube; and most viewers for the premiere of a music video on YouTube.
Count them, that’s five world records with one release.
Congratulations to BLACKPINK @ygofficialblink who've made @YouTube history with a multiple record titles following the release of #HowYouLikeThat https://t.co/26G94FSrRX

Blackpink is an enigma in the K-pop scene, a border-breaking girl group with the talent and the fanbase to go supernova.
They just haven’t cleared that final hurdle, the one that has BTS-type stardom awaiting at the finishing line.
Blackpink’s Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rose have a strong Australian connection. Specifically, Rose.
Born Roseanne Park in Auckland, the 23-year-old singer is based in Seoul, but calls Melbourne home.
At the age of seven, Rose and her family moved to the Victorian capital. And at age 15 the world of K-pop came calling when, at her father’s suggestion, she auditioned for South Korean music company YG Entertainment.
Rose bloomed, she relocated to South Korea and in August 2016, made her debut as a vocalist with the newly-formed quartet.
Along the way, they’ve set a long list of “firsts.”
Last year, they become the first K-pop girl-group to perform at Coachella and their video for ‘Kill This Love’ became the fastest YouTube video to reach 100 million views (it briefly held the 24-hour record, with 56.7 million views).
Expect more records to tumble in the months ahead.

Rose keeps a close eye on events in the land Down Under.
“It breaks my heart to see this,” she wrote as bushfires were raging across the country in January. “Australia is on fire and it has been for too long now. I am heartbroken for the people and homes suffering from the fires and the millions of innocent and beautiful wildlife creatures that are injured and dying right now. Australia is a place that I grew up in and I am so sad to see this happen to such a beautiful country.”
She added, “I will try my best to support and to my fans, please visit any of these links to see if you can help,” linking to a variety of charitable efforts to try and help provide relief to those affected by the fires.”
‘How You Like That’ is the highest debut on the Official U.K. Singles Chart this week (No. 20) and on the ARIA Singles Chart (No. 12).
The single is expected to appear on Blackpink’s upcoming album, currently scheduled for release this September through YG Entertainment/Interscope.
