Since bursting onto the scene in early 2014 with their incredible first single ‘Delete’, there has been no stopping Newtown lads DMA’S. Today it has been announced their debut full-length album entitled Hills End will be released internationally on Friday 26 February. In mid-2013 DMA’S came to the attention of Australian label I OH YOU and were quickly signed off a handful of demos. Creating their signature garage pop in guitarist Johnny Took’s Newtown bedroom, DMA’S released their debut, self-titled EP in March 2014 in Australia. They followed that with the double A-side, ‘So We Know’ / ‘Laced’, later that year. The EP and double A-side were combined for a mini-album that was released overseas following their landmark international signings to Infectious (alt-j, The Temper Trap, Drenge) in the UK and Mom+Pop (FIDLAR, Courtney Barnett, Flume) in the US. The signing and release of the mini-album took the trio overseas, where they toured extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe, the UK and Japan. Alongside their sold-out headline shows they earned themselves spots on the likes of Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Reading and Leeds, Osheaga, Outside Lands and, locally, one of the most talked about sets at Byron Bay’s Splendour in the Grass 2014. They have earned themselves critical acclaim throughout the world, with NME naming them Buzz Act of the Week, and Blur’s Dave Rowntree, Zane Lowe, The Fader, Nowness and Stereogum all giving huge props. Their debut single ‘Delete’ has also just been added to high rotation on BBC Radio 1. Made up of a collection of songs from the past four years, the life of Hills End began yet again in Took’s bedroom. It was produced by DMA’S and Dylan Adams in a small studio in Coogee and then mixed by the legendary Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Depeche Mode, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Maximo Park). The 12-track album showcases the band’s unique talents in writing both anthemic and heartfelt tunes which manage to sound like immediate classic guitar-pop songs. The first taste of the album came in September this year with ‘Lay Down’, which had its world premiere via Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 followed closely online via Stereogum who claimed “its unique fervor almost reshapes the very best of the ‘Madchester’ scene into something totally new.” Following its release the band swiftly sold out two homecoming shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
