Limp Bizkit enjoy upsurge in sales and streams after Lollapalooza set

Limp Bizkit are certainly glad they performed at this year’s Lollapalooza as they’ve enjoyed a 100% upsurge in song sales as a result.

The much-maligned nu-metal legends took to the Lollapalooza stage on Saturday night, July 31st, and their performance swiftly became the most-discussed set of the festival.

As per Billboard, over Sunday, August 1st, and Monday, August 2nd, Limp Bizkit posted a combined 1.9 million on-demand streams, according to MRC Date. That was a rise of 27% from the equivalent days from last week (July 25th and July 26th). Their song sales were also up 100% over the same period (500 songs sold to 1000).

It’s a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a band whose commercial heyday came at the start of the millennium. They topped the Billboard 200 chart twice back then, in 1999 with Significant Other and with the wonderfully-titled Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water the following year. They haven’t released a record since 2011’s Gold Cobra, although a sixth, Stampede of the Disco Elephants, remains in development hell.

Much of the buzz is due to the internet being obsessed with the band’s frontman Fred Durst’s comical new look: formerly fond of a backwards cap, baggy three-quarter length jeans, and sports jersey appeared on social media last week in stylish formal attire, complete with mature grey hair. It’s why the band playing a new song, titled ‘Dad Vibes’, at Lollapalooza was so fitting.

They also featured in the controversial new documentary Woodstock 99: Peace, Love & Rage. After performing a notorious set at that festival, the co-founders of the festival blamed the band for setting the tone that led to the subsequent destruction of property and physical assault that occurred the following night. Limp Bizkit and other interviewees refuted this accusation.
