Melb’s City Calm Down inks deal with Coda Music
Joining acts like Ellie Goulding, FKA twigs and Pusha T, along with fellow Australians Sia, Flume, George Maple and Matt Corby, Melbourne’s City Calm Down has inked a booking deal with London-based company Coda Music Agency.
The band will be booked by Coda’s Jason Edwards, who will be assisted by the agency’s Laura Green.
The news comes just over two months after the band signed to Mushroom Group’s I Oh You, joining Violent Soho, DMA’s and DZ Deathrays, among others.
I Oh You label head Johann Ponniah told TMN the Coda deal came about through Mushroom’s strong promoter ties withFrontier Touring.
“I know Jason [Edwards] through some of the touring we do (he books SOHN and Majical Cloudz, who we tour in Australia) and flicked him the CCD record a little while ago, he really liked it and here we are!”
City Calm Down released debut album In A Restless Houselast week. The record was named a triple j Feature Album and has already received endorsements from both sides of the Atlantic. The LP is the first offering from the band since 2012 EP Movements, which sparked tour invites from alt-j, CHVRCHES, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Bombay Bicycle Club.
Ponniah said that while the main focus is currently on Australia, and that the label hasn’t locked in a UK tour just yet, the band’s presence in the territory is slowly building.
“We’ve had some strong support from media over there so hopefully once we really focus our attention to international markets, things will keep snowballing,” he told TMN.
Coda Music Agency also recently signed Victorian jazz-hop duo Slum Sociable, who join the more than 550 artists and DJs on the roster.
In January 2014 US booking agency giant Paradigm acquired a 50% stake in Coda Music Agency to open both up to international territories.
