Courtney Act to be honoured with wax figure at Madame Tussauds
Performer Courtney Act is being immortalised in the form of a Madam Tussauds wax figure.
The honour is being bestowed to mark both the performer’s 40th birthday and the commencement of this year’s Mardi Gras festival.
The wax figure will be unveiled in December and will star front and centre in the all new PRIDE Zone – an interactive space that will celebrate love, equality and diversity, and pay homage to Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ community.
The figure will wear Act’s iconic 2020 Mardi Gras rainbow Swarovski-covered Marco Marco dress, paired with glitter Louboutins, both of which were donated by Act.
Act said knowing the wax figure will be housed in the PRIDE Zone is “so fitting and perfect”.
“To have my very own wax figure is a dream come true. It’s such an honour and I feel this is the part of me that will live on long after I’m gone,” Act said.
“I’m so proud that we now celebrate love and joy in this way.
“Sydney is a very special city to me. It’s where I discovered my identity and who I am. I started drag and performing in Sydney. There were so many big revelations that happened to me in Sydney. That’s the place I feel most at home.”
Act also flagged there’s a ‘little Easter egg’ within the wax figure, and hinted that fans should look to her feet to find it when they visit in December.
A team of eight Madam Tussauds workers took over 100 measurements and 300 photos in a five-hour sitting to start to bring the figure together. It will be created in London before being shipped to Sydney.
Richard Dilly, the general manager of Madame Tussauds in Sydney, said the team are so excited to welcome the Courtney Act figure to the line-up.
“Courtney is an absolute Australian force, celebrated both locally and on the world stage as an incredible talent, actor, singer, dancer and fashionista.
“Not only that, but her advocacy and passion for LGBTQIA+ visibility, representation and acceptance is inspiring, and she will make an extremely welcome leading lady for the launch of our new PRIDE space at the end of the year.”
