3AW and Magic 1278 GM Shane Healy quits
Fairfax Radio’s Managing Director Adam Long has announced that 3AW and Magic 1278 General Manager Shane Healy has resigned.
Beginning his 25-year run at 3AW in 1989 as Sports Director, Healy was appointed General Manager in 2003 and was able to lead the station to a #1 position in the Melbourne market for over a decade.
Healy also held a role as General Manager at Fairfax Radio Network’s Perth stations 6PR and 96FM and was also the network’s Director of Marketing for a period before commencing his time at 3AW.
Following the news of his impending departure, Shane Healy stated, “After this period of time, it’s right that the business needs to be refreshed and have new ideas, so it’s time for me to pass the baton to a new leadership. It is of course with a touch of sadness that I am leaving 3AW and Magic because I have loved my job, however both are enjoying excellent ratings and good revenue growth, so now seems like the right time to go.”
Adam Lang added, “We have been very privileged to work with Shane Healy. He is a thoroughly decent person, incredibly passionate and a radio professional of rare calibre. His depth of experience in radio broadcasting is unique and Shane has done an excellent job presiding over the continued success of 3AW and Magic 1278.
“It is a testament to the work of Shane’s Melbourne team that 3AW has led the ratings in a competitive market for so long.”
Described as a “warm hearted, well-liked professional”, Shane is set to leave his role on November 14 and intends to have a short sabbatical before looking to new challenges in the next phase of his career.
