275 lawsuits relating to Astroworld could be consolidated into one

275 lawsuits made regarding the crowd surge tragedy at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival last month could be consolidated into a single case, according to a new court filing.

10 people died at the festival as a result of the crowd rushing to the stage on November 5, the youngest being 9 years old. Hundreds more were reportedly injured.

The 275 lawsuits are made by multiple lawyers and represent a total of 1,250 people, and almost all of them allege a level of negligence on behalf of the festival. Some of those named across the suits include Scott, Live Nation, venue NRG Park, promoter ScoreMore and others.

The filing asking for consolidation outlines reasons as to why the suits should be consolidated, including conserving resources, avoiding conflicting schedules and streamlining the process.

“Transfer of all of these lawsuits to a single pretrial judge for consolidated and coordinated pretrial proceedings will eliminate duplicative discovery, conserve resources of the judiciary, avoid conflicting legal rulings and scheduling, and otherwise promote the just and efficient conduct of all actions,” the filing reads.

The filing also states that the majority of lawsuits filed allege levels of negligence in regards to patron safety, security and overall control of the crowd.

“Nearly every petition alleges the same or similar common fact questions related to the alleged negligence – such as failures of safety and security rules, crowd control and emergency response measures, and failures to provide adequate security, supervision, training, and care.”

Last month, it was reported that ScoreMore’s 56-page operations plan didn’t specify what security staff were to do in the event of a crowd surge.

Recently, Scott requested a dismissal for multiple lawsuits levelled against him, with his lawyer reportedly planning to ask for the dismissal of more. In addition, Live Nation and ScoreMore have denied all allegations made against them.
