Iggy Azalea makes US chart history, again
Iggy Azalea made US chart history again overnight as the second female to hold the #1 and #2 spots on the Billboard chart concurrently for multiple weeks.
Now in her second week at the pointy end of the Billboard Hot 100, the Mullumbimby rapper’s fourth single Fancy, from her debut LP The New Classic, and Ariana Grande’s single Problem, where she’s the featured artist, follows Ashanti’s take-over in 2002. Ashanti’s singles Foolish and What’s Luv? spent five weeks at #1 and #2 respectively.
Last Thursday TMN reported she was the first Australian female artist to top the US chart in 33 years – the last Aussie to hit #1 was Olivia Newton-John with Physical in 1981 – and aligned herself with the Beatles as the only artists to rank at #1 and #2 simultaneously with their first two Billboard Hot 100 hits. She was also the fourth ever female rapper to hold the two chart spots simultaneously (following Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim, and Shawnna).
This week marks the second week Fancy has held the #1 spot on the US Digital Songs chart, its third week at #1 on the US Streaming Songs chart and the first time it’s hit #1 on the US Rhythmic Songs and Rap Airplay charts.
Locally, Fancy has been in the TMN Hot 100 for 16 weeks and this week broke the top 10, currently sitting at #9. Problem also sits in the top 10 with a current #3 placing.
On the ARIA Singles chart Fancy sits at #6 after jumping from #9 last week, while Problem sits at #8, after dropping from #4 last week.
