YouTube Music now pre-installed in new Android 10 devices
YouTube Music will now come preinstalled on all new mobile devices launching with Android 10 (and Android 9), including the Pixel series.
“Music listeners on Android devices are now just a few taps away from streaming their go-to tracks and discovering new music,” blogged product manager Brandon Bilinski.
“From the gym, to the car, to work—it’s all here, right in your back pocket.”
It takes the place of the lacklustre Google Play Music.
Bilinski added, “Google Play Music listeners with new Android 10 devices can continue to enjoy Google Play Music by downloading it from the Play Store and logging into their accounts.”
But all indications are that Google Play Music is on its way out.
As of May 2019, YouTube Music had 15 million subscribers, far behind Spotify and Apple Music.
Australia was one of the first 17 markets where YouTube’s revamped subscription streaming service was launched in mid-2018.
Others included the US, UK, Canada and Germany.
In March 2019, it went live in 12 additional markets including India.
Also in March, Spotify announced that it would come pre-installed on millions of new Samsung mobile devices.
