XXXTentacion’s posthumous ‘SAD!’ music video on track to break YouTube record

20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion, aka Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was fatally shot last week with many of his fans and critics confused about how to process the news due to the artist’s alleged history of domestic abuse and homophobia.

Now Onfroy has posthumously released the official music video for his hit song SAD!, which is currently the #1 trending video on YouTube.

At the time of writing, the clip has more than 21 million views and is rising rapidly, after being live on the platform for 11 hours, making it well on its way to breaking the record for most YouTube views in the first 24 hours of uploading.

The title is currently held by Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do film clip which garnered 43 million views within its first day.

According to Billboard, Onfroy has already taken one record from Swift after SAD! amassed 10.4 million Spotify streams on a single day, beating Swifts 10.1 million for Look What You Made Me Do.

The clip, which was written and creative directed [sic] by Onfroy, has garnered controversy in its short life for its depictions of the rapper attending his own funeral and fighting with an inner demon version of himself.

It also includes cryptic typography that scrolls across the screen that encourages viewers to spread love and, towards the end, contains the message, “You have done well battling yourself.”

At the time of his death, Onfroy was pending trial for multiple charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery, false imprisonment and witness tampering.

Police have charged two 22-year-old Florida men for first-degree murder over Onfroy’s death.
