Wise Music Australia renews sub-publishing partnership with The A&R Department

Wise Music Group Australia has extended its partnership with artist development and release platform The A&R Department.

The partnership, which builds on a six-year history between both companies, will allow The A&R Department’s catalogue to be represented by Wise Music Group on an international basis, providing local artists with sync placements in global territories.

Previously, the partnership has seen Australian artists and writers such as The Montreals, Minimal Miggy, MAXO and Kyle Maher achieve global syncs for programs like MTV’s Teen Mom UK, Better Homes & Gardens and Netflix Japan’s Terrace House.

Established by former Warner Music Australia head of A&R, Matt O’Connor, The A&R Department also assists independent Australian artists with publicity, release strategy, distribution and radio servicing.

Wise Music Australia’s managing director, Jane English, celebrated the extension of the partnership, describing The A&R Department as a company with a “unique and clever business structure that continues to evolve”.

“Since 2015, we have created a close, positive and beneficial partnership, as Matt O’Connor’s team finds the best up-and-coming local creative talent, and Wise Music goes on to administer and promote that catalogue globally, with some terrific results.”

Meanwhile, O’Connor said that the renewed partnership with Wise Music Group would allow for more Australian writers and artists to achieve sync deals in international markets.

“I’m excited to continue our partnership with Embassy and Wise Music,” O’Connor said.

“Over the years it has proved to be a great way for emerging Australian artists to have access to flexible licensing, professional global networks and syncs with major brands. All of which is of great importance to me and The A&R Department.”
