Vicious launches Extrovert Music, signs drag duo Jawbreakers

Melbourne-based label Vicious Recordings has launched new imprint Extrovert Music, and revealed its first signing in drag queen duo Jawbreakers.

The new label will focus on LGBTQIA+ music and release Jawbreakers’ upcoming EP.

The pair also release their debut single today – ‘Boyfriend’ feat AMUNDA – a remake of Ashlee Simpson’s 2005 hit that chronicled her stealing Wilmer Valderrama from Lindsay Lohan.

On the launch of Extrovert Music, Vicious GM John Course said when the label first started 30 years ago dance music was a small, new, growing specialist genre.

“Now it has multiple genres within it and the scope of ‘dance music’ is so much wider than it’s ever been,” he said.

“That’s why as we celebrate our 30th year, we wanted to start Extrovert Music; to allow a focus on pop-edged dance music that not only works in commercial clubs, but also on radio and within the streaming playlist environment.

“We’re excited by what is to come and to kick the new label off with Jawbreakers.”

Extrovert Music’s Damien Platt said the team has been keeping an eye on the drag artists.

“When Kali and Sabrina presented us with demos of the EP, we were instantly fans of the music. It’s fun, it’s camp and it’s quality music.

“Extrovert Music is focusing on dance-pop/disco/commercial/crossover releases. A majority of our new signings and existing roster who identify as LGBTQIA+ are producing this sound.”

Founded by John Course and Andy Van, Vicious Recordings is the label that discovered Avicii when he was a teenager and released his first ten records.

Van had a #1 dance anthem with Madison Avenue’s ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ and more recently Vicious released Sgt Slick’s recut of the now Gold-certified ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’.

Jawbreakers are represented by Joel Siviour of Seismic Talent Agency for touring, alongside heavy-hitting acts Alison Wonderland, Example, The Presets, Running Touch and more.
