VASSY has been recognised for a billion streams on her 2014 David Guetta and Showtek collaboration ‘Bad’.

The Darwin-hailing singer-songwriter and producer, now based in LA, joined APRA AMCOS’ The 1,000,000,000 List for the achievement.

Six years after its release, ‘Bad’ passed the billion streams mark, and VASSY says being recognised for the achievement by APRA is an “honour”.

“It was so exciting to receive this award for being on the The 1,000,000,000 List. It’s such an honour considering that my career first started with being acknowledged by APRA AMCOS in Australia before I left for the US,” she said.

“And, now being acknowledged once again for one of my biggest records that I wrote and performed, which went number 1 in many countries around the world, putting me on the map globally as an Australian artist, singer and songwriter.”

The 1,000,000,000 List takes into account streaming numbers from all major services including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Vevo, Amazon, Google Play and more.

‘Bad’ went to #1 on the ARIA Dance Chart upon its release, and placed at #11 on the end of year chart in 2014, as well as making it to #5 on the ARIA Singles Chart (and going 2x Platinum).

VASSY, David Guetta and Dutch duo Showtek (Wouter & Sjoerd Janssen) are credited as co-writers along with Sulta & Shepard (Ossama Al Sarraf & Ned Shepard), Manian (Manuel Reuter), Giorgio Tuinfort and Nick Turpin.

“A huge congrats to VASSY from the whole BMG team both here and around the world. It’s great to see her hit such a milestone and join this exclusive streaming billionaire’s club with this incredible tune,” Heath Johns, Managing Director, BMG Australia and New Zealand, said.

‘Bad’ was also an international success, going to #1 in Norway, Finland and South Korea, as well as being certified Gold in the US.

VASSY also won a prestigious International Dance Music Award (IDMA) for “Best Featured Vocalist Performance” for the track.

“Huge congratulations to VASSY on her billion streams for ‘Bad,’ one of the many hit songs that she has been a major collaborator on,” APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston said.

“Her incredible songwriting talent has taken her to the top of the charts worldwide, and we couldn’t be more proud of all that she has accomplished both at home in Australia and overseas.”

VASSY has had six #1s on Billboard’s Dance Club Chart, and she has had songs feature in film and TV, including the trailer for Disney’s Frozen.

It’s not the first time she’s been recognised by APRA AMCOS, winning an APRA Professional Development Award in 2004.

She joins a growing list of Aussies on The 1,000,000,000 List including Nat Dunn, Dean Lewis and Jon Hulme, Flume, Tones And I, 5SOS, Gotye, Vance Joy, Sia, Joel Little, Sarah Aarons and more.
