Untitled Group launches Daily Nightly record label: Exclusive
Untitled Group is entering the record business.
The expanding Melbourne-based events and management company, which produces the annual Beyond the Valley Music Festival, has launched the Daily Nightly record label, through a partnership with Caroline Australia.
First up releases in the weeks to come will feature debut efforts from homegrown artists Big Words and Arroyo.
Daily Nightly takes its name from the 1967 track written by Michael Nesmith and recorded for The Monkees’ fourth album, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. It’s a song that explores the Sunset Strip curfew riots of the era and which incorporates the sounds of a Moog synthesizer, rare for a pop or rock track at the time. It’s a fitting source of inspiration on many levels, notes label director Filippo Palermo.
“We hope for our label to carry on this ethos,” Palermo explains, “one that really excites listeners. Not only will we aim to push boundaries within our time sonically, we will also represent the label in a refreshing light aesthetically from the visual components and unique locations of our showcases to the brand identity curated by Louis Nuccitelli.”
Speaking with TIO, Palermo says Daily Nightly is invested in helping “grow the profile of our artists and distribute their music through the use of creative and well thought out promotional strategies.”
And, in time, the company may tap synergies with its suite of events, which include Pitch Music & Arts, Grapevine Gathering and Ability Fest. “We may build an activation for the label within some of our festivals and will be using the festivals to find up and coming talent,” Palermo adds.
Big Words sign to Daily Nightly after impressing at a string of Untitled shows, including Beyond The Valley, Ability and Pitch. Formed in 2010 as teens, the Melbourne band’s works are cruising towards 4 million combined streams on Spotify and they’ll release a new double single, “SlowDance,” on October 26.
Gold Coast-based indie-rock duo Arroyo dropped their swirling, atmospheric debut “Please Just Let Me Know” earlier this year and premiered a new song, “Hold,” Sunday night on Triple J, ahead of its official release this Friday (Oct. 12).
Untitled Group produces upwards of 100 events in Australia and abroad each year, and its activities reach into artist management and touring. Its flagship Beyond The Valley camping fest began in 2014, and runs each year through the New Year’s Eve period. The boutique event attracts some 15,000 party-goers and has featured such big names as Chance The Rapper, Jamie XX and many more.
