UNFD to celebrate 10th birthday with artist showcase

Heavy record label UNFD is celebrating 10 years in business with a showcase event in Melbourne on December 1.

UNFD was created in 2011 as a rebrand of Boomtown Records, which had been around since 2002.

It now has offices in London, Los Angeles and Melbourne with a mix of local and international artists on its roster.

The December 1 event at Richmond’s The Corner Hotel will include four of the label’s artists playing sets. The four acts in question will be revealed in the week of the event.

There will also be a pop-up merch stall and DJs from other label mates.

Earlier this year, the label launched an exclusive eco-friendly vinyl re-issue series celebrating some of its most-loved releases from the past decade, as well as a podcast deep-diving into the artists and legacy behind each album.

It also created an interactive timeline documenting its milestones.

Throughout its history, UNFD, part of the wider UNIFIED Music Group, has worked with artists including The Amity Affliction, Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Thy Art Is Murder and Hands Like Houses.

The label was nominated as Independent Label of the Year at the AIR Independent Music Awards.

Luke Logemann told TMN at the time of the nomination that in addition to its 10-year milestone, simply surviving 2020 and 2021 as an independent company was a real achievement.

“As en entire company, we’ve got a lot of different elements of what we do, and I guess what we did is just tried to focus on what we can control, and as a label for us, direct-to-consumer sales became a massive part of what we do, and it’s a massive way that we can reach the community that we operate within, and just try and get sales out there when retail stores and JB Hi-Fi and that kind of thing aren’t open,” he said of the label’s year.

“I guess the other thing for us is that half of our artists are from either the US or the UK signed on global deals. So for us, we had people in different territories, and we were all able to work in our own individual territories and try to keep our artists running, using new technologies to try and help them survive such a difficult year for artists.”
