Uncharted: Amy Shark, Kygo, Sheppard, 5 Seconds Of Summer

A huge week at commercial sees a number of high profile acts challenging for radio supremacy.

Amy Shark – ‘I Said Hi’ (SME)

Making the shift to a more commercially suitable soundscape, Gold Coast’s Amy Shark has released ‘I Said Hi’, the first offering from her upcoming studio album. The Gold Coast local isn’t shy about where the lyrics stemmed from – the track is a passive-aggressive middle finger to her haters and doubters – and the catchy song produced with Dann Hume should continue on from her previous charts success. Shark’s history on the TMN Hot 100 starts with ‘Adore’, which peaked at #13, and also includes ‘Weekends’ (#13) and ‘Drive You Mad’ (#68).

Kygo ft. Miguel – ‘Remind Me To Forget’ (SME)

Kygo launched this tropical house jam in mid-March and it’s now getting an official shot at radio. Commercial MDs who haven’t already added the track will be hard-pressed to ignore a song of this quality, with ‘Remind Me To Forget’ sporting feature vocals from Miguel. Kygo has two Top 10 songs under his belt, namely ‘Firestone’ (#9) and ‘It Ain’t Me’ (#6) alongside Selena Gomez.

Sheppard – ‘Riding The Wave’ (CHUGG/MGM)

Brisbane’s Sheppard are at it again with new single ‘Riding The Wave’. The radio favourites are steering their own ship, and have delivered another great pop smash. As singer George Sheppard said, “…trying to base your future on your past will lead to inevitable failure, but creating something we believe in, not what pressure tells us we should deliver has ironically been what’s gotten us back in the charts.”

5 Seconds Of Summer – ‘Youngblood’ (EMI)

5SOS are also in contention for glory this week with the title track off forthcoming album Youngblood. The boys are following up on the recent success of ‘Want You Back’ and will look to boost their presence of the Hot 100 with this catchy, radio-friendly number.
