Turn Up Sunshine Coast music industry conference announces keynote speaker

Turn Up, the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance, Scenestr and Shake It Up Music are calling on musicians and music industry personnel from the Sunshine Coast region and greater South East Queensland to come together, connect, network, listen, learn and be inspired at The Lind Theatre, Nambour on Thursday 13 October for the 2016 Sunshine Coast Music Industry Conference. Supported by The Regional Arts Fund, APRA/AMCOS and The Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance, the Turn Up Conference is now in its third year and is Queensland’s premier regional music conference.

The program includes:

• Insights from leading industry achievers.
• A keynote presentation.
• Discussion panels by industry experts focusing on song writing, performing, producing, publishing, record labels, venues, community radio, management and festivals.
• Master class series with guitar gods Phil Emmanuel and Owen Van Larkins, Social Media with Adam Bean and Band Management/Planning with Dennis Dunstan (former manager of Fleetwood Mac). The Master classes are limited to small groups.
• Net working opportunities with industry veterans and fellow practitioners.

Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson, is excited to be opening the 2016 Turn Up conference which will inform, educate and inspire delegates to strengthen their career aspirations within the local music industry.

This will be followed by Leanne de Souza who will be the keynote speaker at this conference. Leanne is an entrepreneur, arts advocate, facilitator and manager based in Brisbane. Currently, Leanne is the founder and director of the Rock and Roll Writers Festival and an undergraduate at the University of Queensland (Bachelor of Arts, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies) after taking self imposed long service leave in 2015 from a lengthy, self employed tenure as an artist manager. Working in artist management from 1997 until 2015, Leanne represented several high profile musicians including – Thelma Plum, The Medics, The Painted Ladies, Liam Gerner, Kate Miller-Heidke, Stringmansassy, George, Katie Noonan, Misinterprotato, Transport and Miles From Nowhere.

The past, thepresent and the future of record labels, representation, retail and radio will be discussed by industry experts Aaron Nevylan (Sony Music), Barry Bull, John Williams (Southern Cross Media) and Dennis Dunstan (Frontrow Management). Delegates will be entertained by showcase performances from some of the region’s best contemporary musicians including Kayt And Steph from The Flumes, Malia Stirling and Jason Daniels.
