The Teskey Brothers land first #1 album, enter ARIA history books

Melbourne family band The Teskey Brothers topped the ARIA Albums Chart on Saturday for the first time with their Live At The Forum release.

They also take a coveted spot in music’s history books. It’s the first live album by an Australian band to top the ARIA Charts since AC/DC’s Live back in November 1992.

Recorded last November during a four-night run in their hometown at live music venue The Forum, the album also includes tracks from their first two studio albums.

“We are completely gobsmacked to reach the number one spot,” said Josh Teskey. “I guess it just goes to show how much everyone misses attending gigs right now!”

The band’s Stay Home Slow virtual tour has supported the release, along with a series of live videos and a behind-the-scenes documentary of the recording experience.

The 16-minute video includes performances from the night, musings from the band members and a glimpse into the ambitious analogue recording process.

At the 2019 ARIA Awards, The Teskey Brothers won Best Group, Best Blues & Roots Album and Engineer of the Year. They are also up for three gongs at tonight’s APRA Music Awards.

They become the seventh Australian band to top the  on debut this year, after Birds of TokyoThe Smith Street Band, Dune Rats, Tame Impala5SOS and Violent Soho.
