The Orchard adds publishing services via new Sony/ATV deal

Sony/ATV has signed a deal with Sony Music-owned distribution and services platform The Orchard to offer publishing services to distributed artists and labels.

Through its global network, Sony/ATV will handle all aspects of global song representation and royalty collection, allowing The Orchard’s clients to benefit from the publishing major.

Founded in New York in 1997 and fully acquired by Sony in 2015, The Orchard has an Australian office based in Sony Music’s East Sydney headquarters.

It operates in more than 45 markets worldwide and offers a range of services including marketing, sync licensing, data analysis, rights management and digital and physical distribution.

Former Dew Process and Secret Sounds executive Blake Rayner was appointed general manager of The Orchard’s Australian and New Zealand operations in mid-2018.

Among the first to access the new services are Chilean-born rapper Harry Nach, Kidd Tetoon, Chicago hip hopper G Herbo, Austin pop-jazz band Summer Salt and Unique Leader Records.

Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Jon Platt said: “We are happy to share our extensive music publishing network and expertise with The Orchard in this new venture.

“The Sony/ATV family believes in the importance of creative development and professional support, so we are uniquely positioned to provide world-class service to more of The Orchard’s talented community of songwriters.”

The Orchard CEO Brad Navin adds: “As a leader in artist services we are pleased to expand our offerings through this partnership with Sony/ATV.

“The Orchard thrives on empowering creators. Now we can build an environment where writers have the space to grow roots and take advantage of The Orchard as a true home for artists.”

This partnership is one of many ventures under the One Sony initiative, which expands collaboration among Sony’s vast network of businesses across the world.

Overnight, Sony/ATV and Sony Music Masterworks also announced they were partnering to launch the HyperBrawl tournament video game soundtrack.

The game is described as “an arcade-style sports brawler experience” created by Milky Tea.

It will be released on PlayStation4 (PS4) and other gaming consoles on October 20.

The soundtrack, put together by British music producer Steve Levine, is available on October 16 with lead single ‘The Journey Begins’ out tomorrow (October 9).
