The Kid LAROI dominates Spotify’s end-of-year Australian charts
Spotify has released its end of year stats as part of its annual Wrapped campaign that allows users to see their 2021 listening habits at a glance.
Taylor Swift, who re-released two of her albums this year, was Australia’s most-streamed artist, while Glass Animals’ breakthrough hit ‘Heat Waves’ was Australia’s most-streamed track.
Globally, things look a little different.
Bad Bunny the world’s most-streamed artist on the platform, and Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single ‘Drivers License’ being the most-streamed track. Rodrigo’s debut album SOUR was the most-streamed album on the platform, in both Australia and globally.
However, The Kid LAROI made a big impact across both Australian and global charts.
His ARIA-winning collaboration with Justin Bieber, ‘Stay’, was Australia’s most-streamed local song, with solo tracks ‘Without You’ and ‘So Done’ coming in at #2 and #4 on the same chart.
LAROI’s debut mixtape F*CK LOVE was also the third-most streamed album in Australia, following SOUR and Ed Sheeran’s =.
‘Stay’ also impacted Spotify’s global charts, becoming the third most-streamed song worldwide, after ‘Drivers License’ and Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’.
LAROI made a similar impact on Apple Music’s end-of-year charts, announced yesterday. F*CK LOVE was the most streamed Australian album on Apple Music, with ‘Stay’, ‘Without You’ and ‘So Done’ all also made an appearance in the top 25 most-streamed songs in Australia.
While ‘Stay’ was also Australia’s most-shazamed song, Sydney rapper Masked Wolf’s breakthrough hit ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ was the most Shazamed globally.
In podcasting, Joe Rogan and his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience dominated across the board, being the most-streamed podcast in both Australia and the world.
As usual, Spotify are offering users the chance to enjoy their own personalised Wrapped experience through the Spotify app.
