TEG’s Geoff Jones Awarded Order of Australia Medal

TEG’s Geoff Jones Awarded Order of Australia Medal

Geoff Jones, chief executive officer of TEG Group, has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal for “service to business, and to the entertainment industry.”

Sydney-based Jones was saluted in the 2025 Australia Day Honours List, published January 26 to coincide with Australia Day.

Across his ongoing, 14-year tenure as group CEO, Jones has helped turn TEG into a global powerhouse operating across ticketing, live entertainment and technology, including its data analytics business.

With Jones at the helm, TEG’s Ticketek shifts more than 20 million tickets to events in Australia and New Zealand each year, and the brand has expanded into Asia and the United Kingdom.

“Under his stewardship, TEG has realised significant growth and now has over 35 businesses under its banner operating globally,” reads a statement. Those businesses include TEG Dainty, TEG Live, Handsome, Laneway and more.

Born in Brisbane, Jones has toured global artists such as Eminem, Katy Perry, Hugh Jackman and Queen, as well Australian stars such as Hilltop Hoods, Amy Shark, Keith Urban, Grinspoon and John Butler Trio.

Before he marshalled concerts, Jones served for 16 years in the Australian Defence Force, climbing his way through the ranks to lieutenant-colonel.

TEG’s live content activities are enjoyed by more than three million punters each year, across upwards of 4,000 annual events, while its venues portfolio includes arenas, clubs and performance spaces in Australia and, since 2019, the United Kingdom, when the business acquired MJR Group. TEG’s assets include Qudos Bank Arena, Australia’s biggest arena boasting a 22,000 capacity. Also, TEG produced SXSW Sydney, which this year celebrates its third edition.

After leaving the armed forces in 1998, Jones logged four years with entertainment marketing firm IMG as a director, then another four years as national sales director of Foster’s.

Jones’ association with TEG began in 2007 when he was appointed CEO of Ticketek. There, he spent three years growing Ticketek’s market share, partnerships and ticketing technology innovation.

TEG was sold by Nine in 2015 for $640 million to Affinity Partners.

After a stint as a partner and director of SEL, a leading sports and entertainment company, Jones returned in 2011 to lead the diversification of Ticketek and its affiliated companies into what became TEG.

Then, in 2019, Silver Lake, a U.S.-based private equity company which specialises in technology investing, swooped in to buy TEG Group for more than $1 billion.

The Australia Day Honours List celebrates outstanding achievements and service across the nation. This year, 732 Australians were recognised.
