TEG acquires Aussie promoter Van Egmond Group
Garry Van Egmond’s concert promotion company Van Egmond Group has joined TEG, the Australian live entertainment giant and Ticketek owner.
Financial terms of the arrangement, which will see Van Egmond Group renamed as TEG Van Egmond, were not disclosed.
Led by Garry Van Egmond and his son Christo, Melbourne-based Van Egmond Group is behind some of the biggest tours in the history of Australia’s touring business.
The company produced Dire Straits’ record-setting Brothers In Arms tour in 1986, which shifted more than 900,000 tickets, a record until Ed Sheeran’s Divide stadium tour set a new mark in 2018.
Egmond Group also brought AC/DC’s Black Ice Tour to stadiums around the country in 2010, selling about 650,000 tickets.
“Garry has sold well in excess of 30 million tickets across contemporary concerts and theatre productions in the Australasian marketplace and we are delighted to have him and Christo on board as part of the TEG family,” comments TEG CEO Geoff Jones in a statement.
Garry Van Egmond adds: “We have seen TEG’s phenomenal growth over the last few years under Geoff’s leadership and we are very excited about joining TEG and look forward to delivering some big tours and events under TEG Van Egmond.”
He continues, “TEG Van Egmond will be active in both the North America and U.K./Europe for top tier touring opportunities for Australia and South East Asia.”
The new acquisition will sit next to TEG Dainty and TEG Live, the live arms of TEG which organised the recent Fire Fight Australia concert in Sydney.
Less than six months ago, TEG was acquired by Silver Lake, a U.S.-based private equity company with $43 billion assets under management.
Through the new deal, announced Monday, Cindy Wilson, previously Managing Director of BASE Entertainment Asia and a 20-year veteran of the music and live entertainment industries, represents TEG Van Egmond in North America. Wilson is based in Los Angeles.
