Tame Impala’s Cameron Avery signs to ANTI Records
PRESS RELEASE:
Anti- has announced the signing of the immensely talented young singer and songwriter Cameron Avery.
Known to many as the bass player for the band Tame Impala, as a solo artist Avery is a new breed of nocturnal crooner, a street-smart romantic creating timeless music for the modern age. Utilizing a soulful wit, cool arrangements, and husky baritone, Avery harnesses the dark power and humor of artists like Nick Cave, Scott Walker and Tindersticks.
You can hear the track “C’est Toi” care of a darkly romantic and cinematic video directed by Mike Bennet and Nathan Lewis (aka Joy Collective).
“We shot it it in between New York and LA in some spare time I had between touring, “ Avery explains. “Lotsa late night, guerrilla film making from Mike and myself but it turned out okay. It’s a love song I wrote about when I fell in love the last time.”
In discussing his dramatic sound, Avery says, “I wanted to make something that sounded like the old records I love. Johnny Hartman, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Sarah Vaughan, Etta James—the big band stuff, but a bit more bare-bones lyrically.”
