Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker pens new ‘hype’ track for Fremantle Dockers
To celebrate his recent appointment as the club’s #1 ticket holder for the 2021 AFL season, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has written a new ‘hype’ anthem for the Fremantle Dockers.
The song marks a noted departure from Parker’s usual production style, seeing him swap out his woozy synths and fuzzy riffs in favour of a stomping, AC/DC-inspired cut with chugging electric guitars and chanting vocals.
Parker’s composition had its public debut at the recent Dockers game against the Sydney Swans at Optus Stadium last Saturday, blaring over the loudspeakers as the Dockers ran out onto the ground.
Attending the game alongside his bandmate Dominic Simper, Parker stated that he was “incredibly honoured to be the new Fremantle Dockers #1 ticket holder” in a post to his Instagram.
“I will cherish this moment forever.”
A video shared by the Fremantle Dockers also sees Parker and Simper hanging out in the club’s change rooms after the game and chatting with two-time Brownlow winner and club captain Nat Fyfe.
“One of the first things that I was thinking about when the invitation for #1 ticket holder came up was ‘How can I give back to the club? What can I contribute?’,” Parker said of the song’s composition.
“I’ve been a big Freo fan for a long time, and more and more, I’ve just felt more of a bond with Fremantle and the [Dockers football] club.”
