awma awards

As is now the AWMAs tradition, the Australian Women in Music conference’s panel on stereotypes and images of gender, race, sex and cultural diversity marked a win for the music industry today.

Many discussions were had about the state of affairs for women in the music industry this past week at this year’s inaugural AWMAs.

Female empowerment, commerce vs. community, and the importance of mentoring were all major themes on Day One of the inaugural Australian Women in Music Awards and conference.

AWMA Founding Director Vicki Gordon chats about the change she’d like to see in the music industry, what she says to those who feel gendered awards are a thing of the past, and more.

The SSI is taking a delegation of female artists to participate in a two-day AWMA program to turn the spotlight on culturally diverse female artists and music practitioners.

"We are overwhelmed with support which we continue to receive from artists, the music community and the broader creative sector all of whom agree that the time for change has come."
