Sydney Fringe launches with afternoon of live music

APRA AMCOS and the National Live Music Office have teamed up with the 2014 Sydney Fringe Festival and the Surry Hills community to present ’Ignite – Heat the Street’, an afternoon of live local music and performance on Crown Street.

The official launch event for 2014 Sydney Fringe Festival will see shop fronts, bars and venues between Foveaux and Devonshire streets open their doors to host more than 30 local acts including Lime Cordiale, Avivaa, On The Stoop, Milan, Gang of Brothers, All Our Exes Live in Texas, Elodie Sablier, Paul Capsis, Rose Henshaw, Emma Pask and Martha Marlow.

Trinity Bar on Crown Street will act as a central hub for the event and will include a pop up radio station with a live broadcast by Bondi FM.

Fringe Ignite is a co-initiative of the Sydney Fringe Festival, National Live Music Office, and APRA AMCOS, and supported by the City of Sydney. The National Live Music Office is part of an overall campaign to reintroduce live music to the culture of Australia. Ignite’s aim is to encourage businesses and venues to host live music within the community.

“The fact that so many of Crown Street’s shops and businesses have come on board…is remarkable.” says Ilan Kidron, curator of the event and member of The Potbelleez.

’Ignite – Heat the Street’ will run from 4pm – 8pm on Sunday August 31, 2014.
