Sydney Community Cup shapes up for Sunday
The Sydney episode of the national Reclink Community Cup is held this Sunday, August 19.
The Western Walers (musos) and the Sydney Sailors (media) will go head to head at Henson Park, Marrickville.
The AFL game raises funds to help Reclink Australia provide sporting and art opportunities for disadvantaged Australians.
The 2018 game in Melbourne, where it started in 1998, drew 10,000 and raised $170,000.
The Sydney game began in 2012. Aside from the game itself, there are also auxiliary fund raising events.
In the lead up to the game, Young Henry’s offer a cut from every Young Henry’s drink purchased at various events held at The Golden Barley Hotel in Enmore.
These events include a karaoke night, a trivia night, band nights as well as a comedy night.
Last year they raised more than $33,000.
The Western Walers team, coached by BT of Love Police, features members of Scabz, Urthboy/The Herd, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Alex The Astronaut, Smudge, The Stems, Sumeru and Fishing.
The Sailors, coached by Jacob Downey, are keeping their team close to their chests but calls were put to FBi Radio and 2ser FM, Eastside Radio 89.7FM, 2RRR and Koori Radio 93.7FM.
The day is family and pet friendly, with live music, children’s activities, and food & beverage stalls.
Local MP Anthony Albanese and Jenny Leong, state member for Newtown, will be tossing the coin before kickoff.
To ensure everyone brings reusable water bottle!, Waterlogic Australia are supplying free filtered water.
