Spotify Wrapped 2024: What Australia Loved Listening to This Year
Spotify Wrapped 2024 has finally arrived, unveiling the artists, albums, and songs that defined the year for Australian listeners.
Once again, the campaign shines a spotlight on global hits and local talent, celebrating a record-breaking year in music.
Taylor Swift continues her reign as Australia’s streaming queen, securing the title of the most-streamed artist for the second consecutive year. Her anthology The Tortured Poets Department topped the list as the most-streamed album, reaffirming her unparalleled influence and dedicated fanbase. Sabrina Carpenter followed closely with Short n’ Sweet, a breakout success that captured hearts with its infectious melodies. Billie Eilish rounded out the top three albums with Hit Me Hard and Soft.
Australian artists made a significant impact in 2024. The Wiggles were crowned the most-streamed local act, followed by The Kid LAROI, AC/DC, Vance Joy, and RÜFÜS DU SOL. Vance Joy’s timeless hit Riptide took the top spot as the most-streamed local track, alongside CYRIL’s Stumblin’ In, Dom Dolla’s Saving Up, The Kid LAROI’s Nights Like This, and AC/DC’s You Shook Me All Night Long.
Globally, Australian music continues to thrive. Dance music remains the nation’s second-largest export genre after pop, with Dom Dolla and CYRIL leading the charge internationally.
Ben Watts, Spotify Head of Content for ANZ said, “For a decade now, music has been at the heart of the Spotify Wrapped experience – year after year giving Australian fans a reflection and a reminder of the year gone by. 2024 was no exception, showing up with its own set of trends, moments and movements that redefined the music landscape, with Australian music right in the centre of that.”
“Dance music remains Australia’s musical juggernaut, solidifying its position as a leading export genre while making waves on the home front. This year, standout tracks from Dom Dolla and CYRIL have climbed into the top local tracks, reflecting the incredible momentum of these two artists. Both have enjoyed a phenomenal year, captivating audiences locally and internationally as they continue their remarkable rise.”
The Kid LAROI was the most newly discovered Australian artist by listeners outside the country, while Troye Sivan and Chase Atlantic maintained their status as international favourites in the APAC region.
Spotify Wrapped wasn’t just about music this year. Australians embraced podcasts and audiobooks in a big way, with The Joe Rogan Experience taking the top podcast spot.
Other popular picks included The Diary of a CEO, Huberman Lab, and Casefile True Crime. In audiobooks, Prince Harry’s Spare was the nation’s top choice, with A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and James Clear’s Atomic Habits following close behind.
