SOTD: Kaylee Bell channels her inner Keith on clever country banger

Former Toyota Star Maker winner Kaylee Bell pays homage to Australia’s own Keith Urban on new single ‘Keith’, a jam enviable of the country legend himself.

Written with Nashville-based Aussies Phil Barton and Lindsay Rimes, the lyrics to ‘Keith’ are based on the titles for 12 of Urban’s songs, including ‘Days Go By’, ‘Wasted Time’, and her personal favourite, ‘Somebody Like You’.

“‘Keith’ was a song that I had the idea for in my sleep, and still features some of the lyrics that I recorded into my phone that night,” Bell explains.

“I sat on the idea for over a year as I hadn’t really settled on how to bring the song to life, but in Nashville last year, while recording with Lindsay, I took the idea to a writing session with he and Phil.

“The song really wrote itself and was one of the best writing days I’ve had in Nashville.”

Bell has shared the stage with Urban on numerous occasions – once in Australia for his Light The Fuse Tour in 2014, and again in New Zealand in 2016 on his ripCORD World Tour.

2016’s ‘That’s What I Call Crazy’ peaked at #2 on the TMN Country Chart, while previous single ‘One More Shot’ has already eclipsed one million streams, and counting.

With her self-titled studio album due out later this year, Bell is set to perform at London’s C2C Festival, before joining Brandy Clarke, Devin Dawson and Lindsay Ell at the ‘Introducing Nashville’ showcase on 26 March.

Watch Bell perform ‘Keith’ live at NZ’s Top Paddock Music Festival.
