Shawn Mendes joins Ed Sheeran in TMN Hot 100 history books
Shawn Mendes is now part of an exclusive club in Australian radio airplay history.
Mendes is only the second lead artist to simultaneously hold the Top 2 spots on the chart, after pop heavyweight Ed Sheeran achieved the feat in January of 2017.
The UK artist held the Hot 100 summit when ‘Castle On The Hill’ (#1) and ‘Shape Of You’ (#2) went back-to-back during the ÷ album era.
Justin Bieber holds the distinction of charting at #1 and #2 as a featured artist, when DJ Khaled’s ‘I’m The One’ was followed by Luis Fonsi’s ‘Despacito (Remix)’ in June 2017.
The swift rise of ‘Senorita’ comes as little surprise when you look at its streaming prolificacy in Australia.
The track debuted at #1 on both the Australian Spotify and Apple Music charts five weeks ago and hasn’t looked like budging.
‘Senorita’ is the second chart-topping single for both Mendes (‘Treat You Better’ in 2016) and Cabello (‘Never Be The Same’ in 2018).
