Select Music Signs Mudrat

Select Music is celebrating the Year of the Rat.
The Naarm-based punk singer, songwriter and rapper Mudrat is the latest signing to Select Music Booking Agency, doing so ahead of a multi-date east coast swing.
At Select Music, Mudrat (real name: Sean Thompson) will work closely with agents Jimmy Kleiner and Casey O’Shaughnessy, both “consummate professionals yet equally great people,” he comments in a statement issued Thursday, Jan. 23rd.
“Select has a storied history of working and succeeding in the best interests of their artists,” he continues. “Finally, as an independent agency, the choice was always simple.”
Mudrat’s career is tracking in the right direction. After dropping his first single, “Mud” in 2023, he took out the St Kilda Festival’s New Music Competition last February, went on to open for BARKAA, sold out his first headline show at Shotkickers and showcased to the music industry at Bigsound.
Blending punk, metal and hip-hop with a political edge, Mudrat capped the year with the new cut “Year of the Rat.”
On “Year of the Rat,” enthuses triple j Unearthed, Mudrat “pushes boundaries once again, seamlessly weaving Cypress Hill-inspired boom-bap beats with a nu-metal-infused, head-banging chorus that demands attention.” Those vocals are said to be delivered “with a snarling, raw Australian accent” which cut through the noise, creating a sonic identity that’s unmistakably his own.”
The new booking agency pact is inked ahead of upcoming shows at St Kilda Festival on February 16th and a headlining show in Sydney on April 3rd as part of Great Southern Nights.
Also, Mudrat is named to the lineup for the forthcoming HED P.E. tour.
