Iconic masthead Rolling Stone Australia has revealed plans to revive its annual awards.

The brand’s new Australian publisher, The Brag Media, announced its intention to bring back the Rolling Stone Australia Awards on Monday (November 16) in partnership with The Sailor Jerry.

The event will take place on March 31 next year at Sydney venue The Argyle.

The last awards were held at Byron Kennedy Hall in Moore Park in 2015, where triple j won the Milestone Award, Sia won Album of the Year and Tkay Maidza won Best New Talent.

The Brag Media – who rebooted Rolling Stone this year – said the invitation-only awards will deliver a night of live music, unlimited drinks and celebration of Australia’s incredible music.

There are five categories: Best Record, Best Single, Best New Artist, Rolling Stone Global Award, and a Rolling Stone Readers’ Award. All are judged by its global staffers.

“2020 will undoubtedly go down as one of the most trying, tumultuous years for music. But while our local music industry is crippled by a global pandemic, it has not stopped local artists from releasing remarkable music,” The Brag Media’s managing editor Poppy Ried said.

“To be able to celebrate that music in partnership with Sailor Jerry, our global Rolling Stone global team, and our subscribers is very exciting.”

“The Brag Media’s overarching strategy is to evolve and develop as much as we can, so I’m delighted to be part of the team that brings the Rolling Stone Awards to Australia next year.”

The Awards are sponsored by BMW Mini, JMC Academy, Canna, Cash Converters and Yamaha.

Nominations are open now at the official voting portal.
